Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Stowood Scientific Instruments Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. We will keep

this date under review, bringing it forward if possible as our carbon reduction plans develop.

Current Emissions Reporting

Emissions reduction targets

The business is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050 at the latest. We will keep this date under review, bringing it forward if possible as our carbon reduction plans develop. We will also consider setting near-term targets for carbon reduction. However, such targets will need to be intensity-based due to the planned growth in the business in the coming years. This includes further development into overseas markets so we are very conscious of our need to work hard on reducing emissions from sources that are under our control in order to offset the growth in emissions from increased travel and transportation in particular. We have identified some initial carbon reduction projects, as outlined below, and will continue to scope others so that meaningful nearer-term targets can be established

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed:

• The business achieved Green Small Business Certification in May 2023, having developed an environmental policy and comprehensive action plan addressing all of the significant environmental impacts of the business.
• LED lighting has been installed throughout our premises.
• A hybrid working model has been adopted.
• Business travel has been minimised through extensive use of video-conferencing.
• Waste reduction is achieved through the re-use of incoming packaging for the shipping of our own products.

Our environmental action plan commits us to the implementation of further measures which we anticipate will reduce the carbon intensity of the business, such as:

• Identifying opportunities for reducing the use of air transport for upstream and downstream transportation, e.g. through extended storage and/or improvements in the efficiency of stock control.
• Implementing a principled approach to business travel decisions in order to avoid unnecessary travel and to ensure that necessary travel is by the most sustainable means possible. We will adopt a criteria-based travel policy to ensure consistency in decision-making across the company.
• Facilitating access to low-emission vehicles for our employees.
• Commissioning a specialist survey of our premises in order to identify opportunities for improving energy efficiency and to explore the feasibility of on-site renewable energy installation.
• Providing guidance on environmental and carbon management to our staff.
• Conducting an audit of our main suppliers to identify opportunities for reducing the environmental impacts of our supply chains.
• Reviewing and improving where possible the environmental footprint of our products and their packaging, included their embodied carbon, e.g. through rationalisation of component parts, incorporation of recycled content, reduced weight and improved operational efficiency.

Declaration and Sign Off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans. Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for

Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard5 and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting6

.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard7

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
