REM Sleep Behaviour Disorder (RBD)

A condition in which people physically act out vivid dreams during REM sleep, sometimes with sudden movements or vocalisations. RBD can disrupt sleep and may be linked to other neurological conditions, requiring careful clinical assessment.

RBD is a parasomnia in which patients physically act out dreams due to loss of normal REM muscle atonia. It can result in injury and may precede neurodegenerative disease.

PSG with EMG is required for diagnosis, showing abnormal REM muscle tone. Stowood’s systems provide sensitive EMG recordings and event scoring to aid detection.
